A MMO Like Wing Commander, Privateer and Freelancer

posted in: Getting Started | 0

Wing Commander featured a universe that was incredibly well crafted along with a real sense of achievement and offered a glimpse of what space ship combat may be like. Star Citizen brings Chris Roberts' original vision to modernity with incredible graphics that look like cut scenes and a living, breathing universe full of life and stories. If you were a fan of Wing Commander then Star Citizen is the 21st century evolution of that game.

An MMO Like Privateer and Privateer 2

Ever played Privateer and dreamed of what the game would be like multiplayer with thousands of players flying about the galaxy trading, dogfighting, exploring and more? Star Citizen uses the latest generation of computer technology to bring a universe to life. Land on planets, get out of your ship with your crew, carry out missions and fly to distant systems!

A Game Like Freelancer

Star Citizen is a game currently being developed by a crowd-funded team led by Chris Roberts the creator of Wing Commander, Privateer and Freelancer. Chris Roberts’ vision was to create a living universe with a compelling background story where, unlike many games today, your characters actions have meaningful consequences. Imagine a high detail version of Freelancer within a massively multiplayer universe.

How Do I Start Playing Star Citizen?

Star Citizen is currently under development with backers having access to TEST some parts of the game. Squadron 42 is estimated to release before Star Citizen even though the games share most of the same tech. Both games are still perhaps a few years away (even though we said a few years a few years ago!).

Star Citizen isn't just the most ambitious game ever made, it is also one of the most complex games for new players getting started due to the massive amount of information, game types, game package options and more!

What is playable now in Star Citizen Alpha?

The Star Citizen Alpha access allows backers to test some of the game as it's being developed. If you're looking for a complete game that runs smoothly, the Star Citizen Alpha is not your best option.

In our opinion, players looking to join Star Citizen at this time should be prepared for instability and access to a tiny fraction of what eventually will be playable. Players looking for a complete game with a smooth gaming experience are recommended to wait until middle or late Beta but we guess this to be still probably two or more years away at this time (2021+) still years away.

What is playable now is:

  • Access to Persistent Universe (PU)
  • Access to Arena Commander and Star Marine Simulations

The PU currently offers a variety of things to do and you can travel within the Stanton System which features 4 planets you can land on as well as many moons and space stations.
